This week we have been staying in Derbyshire with Growler, Digger and Buster.
On sunday we went for a circular walk from where we were staying to Peter’s Stone. We found are first ever Geocache!
The next day we went to Bakewell. Dad and Gertie went on a secret mission to find another Geocache! We had to make sure that nobody saw us. Whilst we were in Bakewell we bought a yummy Bakewell Pudding. We then went to Monsal Head for a lovely walk down by the river.
On Tuesday we walked up Mam Tor and found a Geocache near the top. On the way down it was very muddy and boggy. Growler had to be dragged down the steep hill on a bivvy bag so as not to fall over, Mum did the splits backwards down the hill. Dad did a pirouette slip down the hill and almost knocked Growler over. A bit later on Aubrey slipped over in the mud and Gertie started laughing and fell on her bum. Only the dogs managed to stay on their feet. Half way down the hill we walked along an old road that had collapsed in a landslip and we could see all the layers of tarmac. At the end we stopped for a cup of tea at the Blue John tea shop. Dad and Gertie went down the caverns formed by a underground glacial river where a rare mineral called Blue John has been found; it is the only place in the world where it has been found. Gertie bought a piece of Blue John from the gift shop for her stone collection
.
On Wednesday we took our bikes to Hassop Station on the Monsal Trail, Growler hired a bike, and we all cycled to Millers Dale. The trail went through Head Stone, Cressbrook and Litton tunnels. We also went over the Monsal Head Viaduct that we had walked under the day before. We cycled a total of 11.2miles and found two more Geocaches.
On Thursday we went to Eyam, the plague village, and took a walk up to Mompesson’s Well to find another Geocache. It was a very cold day with hawe frost in the trees. When we got back to the cottage Dad cooked toad-in-the-hole and Mum made a yummy scrummy Bakewell Pudding from scratch and it was even more tasty than the one we bought in Bakewell
.
On Friday we went for a circular walk around the Chatsworth Estate and had a geocache free walk with the dogs. At the end we stopped for tea and cake in the tea shop.
